◆ EASD 2026 CONGRESS INTELLIGENCE
3pm report · Mon 28 Sep 2026
Coverage 07:15–14:15 BST Mon 28 Sep (7 hours) · congress day 1
Milan · 28 Sep – 2 Oct · Prepared for Amgen Corporate Affairs

Day one's coverage belongs to device makers. No public coverage of the morning's industry symposia yet.

Volume rose sixfold on the previous seven hours as the congress opened, but about half of it is device-company messaging: an Abbott statement on CGM access syndicated 159 times across Italian regional press, and Tandem and Dexcom releases on Business Wire. The weekend's press abstracts kept spreading, with gut microbiome and red-meat studies reaching Il Sole 24 Ore, ThePrint and The National. Lilly opened a "House of Lilly" in Milan, drawing skeptical comments from two pharma reporters. None of the morning's industry sessions, including Amgen's symposium (10:00–11:00 BST), appears in media or social coverage in this window.

Amgen mentions
a conflict-of-interest line only

Escalations: none triggered. The only Amgen mention is an author disclosure in the GLP-1 eligibility study's release ("BGN reports consultancies/talks for AstraZeneca, Sanofi, Ionis, Amgen, Novartis, Novo Nordisk…", FirstWord Pharma, 07:54). No ★ session has taken place yet.

Amgen symposium: "A Patient-Centered Approach to Long-Term Obesity Management" ran 10:00–11:00 BST in Warsaw Hall. No article or public post in this window refers to it, or to the other morning industry sessions by name (Novo's full-day program, Lilly's Industry Day, Roche Pharma Day). Pulsar keeps indexing after publication, so later posts may still appear in the 8am report.

Competitor notes: an investor post says Wegovy tablets now appear on Denmark's medicines price list with pricing effective today (DKK 2,838–3,877 for 30 tablets; @janthecurious1, not verified). Lilly's CEO reshared the "House of Lilly" launch.

01Executive readout

Four developments, why each matters, and what changed since the 8am report.

Ranked by relevance to obesity and cardiometabolic care, not by volume. Today is industry day; the scientific program starts tomorrow.

01 NEW · ~230 ITEMS

Device makers dominate day one: Abbott, Tandem and Dexcom

An Adnkronos Salute item quoting Abbott ("the evidence supporting continuous glucose monitoring is increasingly solid… ensuring more equitable and uniform access") was syndicated 159 times, led by La Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno (09:37). It links Abbott's Truveta study (44% lower one-year mortality with CGM on basal insulin) to uneven regional reimbursement in Italy. Tandem launched its Mobi automated insulin delivery system in 12 markets "MILAN, September 28" (Yahoo Finance, 37 items), and Dexcom's State of Type 2 report and Team Novo Nordisk partnership reached Morningstar (30 items).

Why it matters: device companies hold the congress-day news agenda before the drug data arrives on Wednesday. Dexcom's release accounts for 26 of Novo's 55 mentions in this window, through the cycling-team partnership. Change: Dexcom appeared at 07:00 in the 8am report; Abbott's and Tandem's pushes are new.
02 NEW · ITALY

Italian coverage frames the congress around access and reimbursement

ANSA (reach 1.7M) quotes Prof. Buscemi of the Italian Obesity Society (SIO): reimbursing the new drugs for half a million high-risk Italians with obesity would "cost much less" than a recent car-tax measure, with possible savings of €1.6 billion (ANSA, 10:52). Sanità33 notes that SID/AMD guidelines recommend CGM on basal insulin alone but reimbursement still differs by region. ANSA's opening story leads with Novo's free screening at CityLife and the public 5K on Thursday (Gazzetta di Mantova, 13:56).

Why it matters: in the host country the congress is being read through affordability and access (SID's "democratize" framing on Friday, and now SIO's cost argument), which is the lens new obesity therapies will be judged through in Italian coverage.
03 ▲ GROWING

Lilly opens "House of Lilly"; two pharma reporters react

@EliLillyandCo (146k): "In Milan, Italy, we're opening House of Lilly during #EASD2026. It brings art and science together…" Lilly CEO Dave Ricks reshared it. Within the hour, reporter Michelle Fay Cortez quote-posted "Health is our highest artform?… This is baffling" (X), and Kyle LaHucik asked "does this mean Gaga will become the next Lilly celebrity spokesperson? @DaveARicks" (X). The posts they quote are not in the data. Lilly's regional accounts promoted "150 years of medicine", the IDF mobile screening unit and a session recording on visceral fat.

Why it matters: this is the first public reporter reaction of the congress, and it is to Lilly's brand staging rather than its data. Change: Lilly mentions rose from 9 in the previous seven hours to 24.
04 STEADY

Press abstracts keep spreading: gut microbiome, red meat, GLP-1 eligibility

Il Sole 24 Ore (1.3M) paired the microbiome signature (789 bacterial species, 229,000 adults) with the red-meat Neu5Gc study (63% higher T2D risk); ThePrint (568k, plus a post to its 505k X followers) and The National (UAE) followed. The Telegraph's "four million more" GLP-1 story was syndicated on MSN (13:34), and the Danish cancer study reached 14 more US radio bulletins and Medical Republic (AU).

Why it matters: the prevention and early-detection framing from the weekend is now in national business and general press in Italy, India and the Gulf. A French post challenges the microbiome finding as "an expensive test to read what a glucose sensor already sees live" (@SolanisAi).

What it means for Amgen. Amgen's symposium took place this morning, but no media or public social coverage of it appears in this window; the only Amgen mention is a conflict-of-interest line. Clinicians are already live-posting from obesity sessions (e.g. Prof. Wasim Hanif on SURMOUNT-MAINTAIN, and a dedoc° advocate on amylin and glucagon), so session content can travel on social before press picks it up. Amgen's next scheduled items are MariTide abstract 121 in OP 21 (Wed 13:30 BST) and abstract 1272 (Thu 11:45 BST). On the AI side, Gemini names abstract 121, ChatGPT now finds the symposium but no MariTide abstract, and Claude has reverted to saying it found no Amgen announcement (section 07).

Main claims and themes

Novo NordiskMostly carried by others: Dexcom's Team Novo Nordisk partnership (26 items), ANSA's opening story on Novo's free screening and public 5K, and investor posts ahead of 44 abstracts ("EASD is a chance to focus on what it still owns: a huge obesity franchise, oral leadership, amylin science", @peter_torngren). Its own accounts posted day four of 5K@EASD and reshared CongressHub content.
Eli LillyBrand and heritage: House of Lilly ("art and science"), "150 years of innovation in medicine", free screening. Trader alert: "Eli Lilly is on watch this morning" for its industry symposium (@ttvresearch). Retail analysts keep TRIUMPH-2 at "grade B until the slides are public" (@PeptideBriefs).
Abbott · Tandem · DexcomCGM "evidence increasingly solid" and a call for equitable access (Abbott); Mobi launch in 12 markets (Tandem); CGM plus GLP-1 "convergence" (Dexcom).
OthersZealand/Roche's petrelintide ("up to 10.7% at 42 weeks") and Novo's zenagamtide heading to phase 3, in a Greek overview of combination therapies (Virus.com.gr). T1D companies (NextCell, SAB BIO) at INNODIA.

Comparison with Amgen. Amgen has no owned or earned EASD content in this window. Lilly and Novo reach the conversation through owned channels (House of Lilly, 5K@EASD, CongressHub) and third parties (Dexcom's partnership, ANSA, investors); device makers use wire releases. Amgen's program continues Wednesday (abstract 121) and Thursday (abstract 1272). Engagement counts are low across the board (most posts 0–3) because counts refresh after collection.

07LLMs and search drivers

ChatGPT (GPT-4.1), Claude (Opus 5) and Gemini (3.1 Pro), all with live web search · same 5 questions · 143 citations, 132 resolve.

Point-in-time runs at 14:16 BST today (all three), compared with this morning's runs at 07:13–07:20. These are not window counts. Gemini with Google Search is the closest available stand-in for Google's AI answers, not a copy of AI Overviews.

The answer on Amgen now depends on which assistant you ask and when. ChatGPT now confirms Amgen's symposium ("Amgen is participating… 11:00 to 12:00 CEST in the Warsaw Hall") but says the program does "not list MariTide-related abstracts", which is wrong: abstract 121 names maridebart cafraglutide. Claude has gone back to Friday's answer: "I found no announcement that Amgen is presenting MariTide data at EASD 2026", and "Amgen does not appear" in congress listings. Gemini is correct for the third run in a row, and the only assistant to cite abstract 121. None mentions abstract 1272.

Totals: ChatGPT 25 (22 resolve), Claude 62 (61), Gemini 56 (49). This morning: 26, 53 and 66. Novo and Lilly together account for 7 of ChatGPT's citations, 20 of Claude's and 15 of Gemini's.

What it means for Amgen

Answers about Amgen are unstable. In a single day, Claude went from "no" (Friday) to "yes, a symposium" (07:13) and back to "no announcement" (14:16). ChatGPT went from "no evidence" to "participating". Each assistant searches again every time, and whether it finds the easd-industry.com listing or the programme PDF decides the answer. None of them has yet found an Amgen-owned EASD source to cite; Claude points users to "Amgen's investor newsroom".

Claude now reads financial coverage for Amgen. Its Amgen sources this afternoon include Seeking Alpha, Yahoo Finance, BioSpace and TIKR pieces on MariTide and Amgen's stock, alongside Amgen's IR pages. Its answer centers on MARITIME timing and a switch study rather than on EASD.

Gemini overstates. It is correct on the facts but says Amgen's presence is "heavily featured in the conference's broader discussions". Our data shows no media or social coverage of Amgen at EASD so far. Three of its six Amgen citations are unrelated pages (a lung-cancer article, a Facebook post, a marketplace page).

Statements quoted are the assistants' own. We verified the Amgen programme items against EASD's final programme; other claims are not verified.
